The Battle of Wisby is a Swedish historical reenactment event, commemorating the 1361 Battles of Visby and Mästerby on the island of Gotland.

The event is held in connection with the Medieval Week in Visby.

Besides the battles, which are full-scale public events presenting infantry, cavalry, archers and many other features, the event includes participant workshops, lectures, tournaments, and a bustling Medieval camp where visitors can get a glimpse of daily life in the past.

The organization

The Swedish NGO behind the Battle of Wisby 1361 is a non profit organisation that started in 2010 to facilitate the first battle in Mästerby since 1361 (and the first armed battle in Visby since the 16th century, but that is another story for another time). Chairman of the board is Andreas Sohlberg.

The Board and the different working committees (horses, camp, battles, muster, communication, safety and economy, to mention some) are happy to have the battle taking place ”only” once every third year, because it is surprisingly much to organize to get horses, people, paperworks and tents to line up at the right place in the right time. Not to mention all our visitors and not-so-medieval-PA systems for the Narrator of the battles!

Previous installments have taken place in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022.
The Battle of Wisby is scheduled to return in August, 2025.
